Malc - For Motivational Use Only

Allstarrdagreat - Godspeed

Louie Jay - Divorce

Vertical Jones - The gold tape

J.1.da - Tc5: Free from the Past

Samad Savage - Trust The Weird Kids

Stress - Pen Griffey

Out Da Mud Music Group Featuring Shot Kobang & Frank Castle - The BC Era

New Jersey had an outstanding year when it came to the music release from our state. We received an abundance of quality and creativity from many artists that did not even make this list. With respect to the hard work these artist put their Blood, sweat, and tears into these albums.

Trust the weird kids

Standout Tracks:They onto something

Dont; Be yourself

Many agreed this was the best rap album out this year not just for amazing music but also his creativity.

Godspeed

Standout Tracks: Newark Weather, survive the summer, closer

This album really captivated Newark NJ in many of its tracks. The album has a great mix of dark to smooth production and Allstarrdagreat's lyrical prowess on the mic went from pulling at your heart to making your head nod.

For Motivational Use Only

Standout Tracks:Hold on, Alone, Make it out.

Malc already had the ears open with P2. To say he topped his previous project is an understatement. The production is outstanding and the motivation Malc delivers on each track will have you wanting more.

TC5: Free from the past.

Standout Tracks:free, prove it, tonight.

J1da voice is definitely what catches your attention on tracks, and with this album his range of beats run from smooth to even a bounce feeling brought a beautiful marriage of music together.

Seven 25

Standout Tracks:Here whatever, at my momma house, consignment

Tsu surf is safe to say the best album making battle rapper. Some have issues with this projects listing because Surf is a bigger name, but yet what can not be denied is the quality of the music. Which as a listener is what you care for.

BC Era

Standout Tracks: again it's on, da hated, and soul food.

Before the complaints of "its on heritage hip hop" can take place, let's just say it's on the site because of how great of a project it is. Shotko and Frank castle have an amazing 1-2 punch lyrically and subject wise that is clear from the start of the album.

The gold tape

Standout Tracks:Words on words, light a candle, I'll be fine

The gold tape brings you into deep thought, and with adult subject matter dealing with an internal struggle. Vertical Jones production has a dark soulful feel which will either nod your head off your shoulders or bring tears to your eyes.

Pen Griffey

Standout Tracks : Wyk3,  talk to em, Not like

Bars! Pen Griffey is for the fans of lyrical wordplay. Many complain of lack of bars in today's music. I you definitely will not say that with this album.

Divorce

Standout Tracks: from da dirt, vibes, greatness

I am a fan of albums with themes. I the discussion of loyalty is a major topic of this album. With a great list of features and production that isn't locked to one specific style of hip hop divorce is definitely an project that stood out 2019.

The regime volume 1

Standout Tracks: Pray & Eat, what you waiting for, understand us

Dotbundini and E piche killed this album, then resurrected it and killed it again. I will say this E. Piche, is a star coming. This album is music for the fans of attack and gutter hip hop.

Part 2

Yaladysprospect & S.O.T.M - The Tables  turned

Standout Track: death to these new niggas

*(album dropped 12/31/18 other wise it would be top 10)

Cheif Bali - The hateful 8

Standout Track: Hurricane Bali

Brothers of Destruction- Into the groove part 2

Standout Track: for you

Cruch Calhoun - Loco

Standout Track: Minding my biz

In today's world Hip-Hop has grown to the point where everyone can rap and make tracks, That over saturation of music helps people lose the effect and the joy of discovering new artists and music. A lot of good, great, and classic music gets lost. Especially now that everyone can add into Hip-Hop culture we now run the risk of not hearing the voice of the people that are not traditional from the streets Hip-Hoppers. Now a days the "weird" kids are now creating and the world is taking notice to their voices. Now cosplay is in Hip-Hop, anime is in Hip-Hop and those voices are leading a charge in Hip-Hop that is not drug induced and murder driven. This is where conscious Hip-Hop and life meet. Samad Savage finds his niche in being truthful and making music that is about finding the voice of those that experience being shunned but have something to say.

Trust the Weird Kids talks to people that deal with issues of not fitting in and having issues that people find hard to talk about like abuse, self esteem and ego. This album talks to the soul of the young man and woman that is living life while coming out of peer pressure and looking for truth in a broken society. Dealing with issues in side of the mind and with people in relationships and the greater society is the equation every living soul must solve. This album is a peek into the mind of an artist that seeks to do just that. Samad Savage made this album to tackle these issues and to help people solve the equation of life through beats, insightful lyrics and the rhythm of life. Trust the Weird Kids is a continuation in the growth of Samad Savage the artist and Samad Savage the man.

By taking part in listening to this album you will be treated to not only beats and rhymes you will be given the chance to see the world through the eyes of a young man that wants to change the world, and not just exist within it. The point of art is to reflect life and this artist used a verbal and musical paint brush to paint pictures of pain, and uses our joy of music to get us to identify and listen to the inner and outer voices of society. Trust the Weird Kids is the one of the best albums to drop this year. Listen to the message of the album and to help you get it pay attention to each song on the track list. Samad Savage spoils the average Hip-Hop fan with great music and gives the mindful fan something to listen for as well. If this is a weird kid that does Hip-Hop maybe we should let the weird kids in and lead the charge. Maybe we should trust them to lead the genre into its' next great era.

This was a hard one to pick because how do you shut down classic releases. This was not about fan fare or who was liked better. This was about the statement made from the creation of 2 stellular projects. Let's break this down:

Double O released the Classic The Huntsmen Volume 1 and this was the New Jersey Hip-Hop unity album. People had a chance to hear people like Big Stomp, Wayne Danja, Runt Dawg, Dot Bundini, Quas Amil, Chops tha Savior, O-Solo, Pushbuttinz and so many more people to name that the average Hip-Hop fan would not be able to name. This was a boom bap hardcore rap fans dream project because here LYRICS MATTERED. The Mcs that were present had bars and messages on this release and from the mouths of the people I interviewed about his project "EVERY TIME I listened to this album I had a NEW FAVORITE song". Take that into account when how picking the winner of this award came to be.

Samad Savage released his second album The Grey Area this year and the response was stellular as well. Track about dealing with parental misguidance, and seeking a higher self helped this artist reach a level of respect that not many receive on a underground level. Samad Savage's song Watch out is an attention grabber that made even the hardened old school Mcs take notice and say this young man is a problem. When interviewing people about this project I quote one person by saying "Look at my arm, this album gives me goose bumps".

Personally these albums are more than just that. It is the connection of old school and new school holding the culture up and I will be damned if I penalize either album due to preference of Lyrics and bars, and social media followings. They both have great fan bases and Here is to hoping we get a song of these 2 artists together where we can appreciate them both and celebrate our NJ Hip-Hop culture and Hip-Hop in general. Salute to Double O and Samad Savage.
